Schoharie Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild Minutes for October 8, 2024
The meeting was opened at 1:05 by Barb Haverly, president. Members present: 24 Guests: 1
***Secretary’s report: The minutes for the September 10,2024 meeting were emailed to the members. A motion was made by Emilie Wright to accept the minutes and seconded by Betty Pillsbury. The motion was passed and there were 2 abstentions.
***Treasurer’s report: Ron Lower reported there were 3 checks written and one deposit. The current balance is $3,312.41. A motion was made by Emily Davis and seconded by Sharon Vrooman to approve the treasurer’s report.
***Historian: Stephanie Liddle reported the pictures from the Hall of Fame quilt show have been posted on the SVP website.
***Catskill Mountain Quilters HOF: The quilt show was held on September 21&22. A resident of Schoharie County won the raffle quilt. Our part of the profits will be donated to the Joshua Project. Another guild is donating to them as well. The spring meeting will be held on May 12th, 2025. Nominations for new HOF members are due by May 24, 2025. To enter a quilter must live in one of the five counties that are part of the group. You must provide for judging at least two larger quilts that you have completed totally on your own, no work done by another person. You may not use a quilt kit. The judging of quilts for possible new HOF members will be held on June 9, 2025, in Arkville. Betsy Macomber will represent Schoharie County as a judge. The next picnic will be held on July 14, 2025. The blocks for next year’s picnic are Bear Tracks from Quilter’s Cache. *** Sunshine Committee: Diane Warner had nothing new to report.
***By-Laws Committee: There hasn't been another meeting. Old Business: Barb Haverly reported she attended the Major’s Inn quilt show and the quilt show at Proctor’s during the fall and both had a good display of quilts. Barb said Ellen Adams was the featured quilter at the Major’s Inn show. She will be the speaker at our May meeting with a trunk show of her quilts. Betsy Macomber reported that five members from SVP visited Cooperstown to see Betty Pillsbury’s exhibit, had lunch and visited Fly Creek quilt shop. New Business: Quilt shows: The Art Center in Old Forge will host an exhibition of quilts from October 5- November 30th. See the website for hours and details.
***Fenimore Quilt show will be held February 1-16, 2025 in Cooperstown
***Keepsake Quilting and Bonnie Hunter are collecting quilts for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Sharon Vrooman suggested waiting until we could contact a church or other resource in one of the affected areas. Ginny Schaum said her daughter is in an affected area and said she knows about these two charities, Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, NC and Wine to Water. They both have websites if anyone is interested.

***Betty’s Flower Cart: Betty demonstrated how to make ribbon flowers.
***Program: Release the Geese, Kathy Livingston showed flying geese blocks, quilts where the blocks were part of other named blocks. It led into Show and Tell, where a number of examples were shown. Show and Tell: Kathy L.-showed her finished two color challenge Barb H.-said she took a class on making flying geese with a quilting ruler Marlene- showed a two wall hanging with a flying geese border Ernestine- Underground Railroad quilt with flying geese within the blocks, fall color wall hanging, red and white quilt, Marnie-Halloween quilt stars made of flying geese blocks Emily D.- a bat quilt with flying geese blocks Sharon V.- two small quilts made with flying geese pieces Ruey-snowman quilt with partial flying geese border Denise-flying geese wall hanging her mom made, star quilt made with F.
