Schoharie Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild Minutes for February 13, 2024
The meeting was opened at 1:04 by Barb Haverly, president. Members present: 18 Guests: 1
Secretary’s report: The minutes of the December 12, 2023 meeting were emailed to all the members. There was no January meeting due to the weather. A motion was made by Ron Lower to accept the minutes and it was seconded by Joan Youmans. The motion was passed by the members present. Two thank you letters were read that had been received since the December meeting. The first was from the Catholic Charities Schoharie Program Director for the pillowcases made and donated by guild members. The second was from the Schoharie Promotional Association for the guild donation for the Lily Park from raffle ticket sales of the Lily quilt.
Treasurer’s report: Ron Lower reported the checking account balance is $2,276.79 after a membership deposit. A motion was made by Sharon Vrooman to accept the treasurer’s report and it was seconded by Emilie Wright. The motion was approved by the members present.
Historian’s report: Stefanie Liddle reported she investigated the history of when our guild began. She found the first SVP guild meeting was held on September 4, 1986, almost 38 years ago.
HOF report: Kathy Livingston reported there are no meetings during the winter.
Program Committee: Kathy Livingston said Betty Pillsbury isn’t here today but sent a picture for Valentine’s Day that can be stitched using stitches she has taught us previously. Kathy told us the names of the block challenge so far this year. They are Stars and Nines, Centi Fours, Patch as Patch Can, Cross and Chains, Four Square, and Carrie Nation (Kathy said she was an activist). The March program will be about machine quilting with rulers, presented by Betsy Macomber.
Old Business: Empire QuiltFest: Kathy Livingston reported quilt entries are due by February 15, 2024. There are 20 vendors who will vend at the quilt show. Volunteers are needed to work in various areas during the show. The forms are on the web site. We will have a guild table and will sell fat quarters, books and patterns. Volunteers are needed to help at our table. Each participating quilt guild is asked to donate two local products, three of each. Meeting cancellation: If the Middleburgh CSD is closed due to the weather, our guild meeting will be cancelled. Members will be notified by email.
New Business: By-Laws review: Volunteers are Ron Lower, Sharon Vrooman, Emilie Wright and Colleen DeMuth. Schoharie Library Arts in Bloom has been scheduled for June 8th from 10-3. In the past the guild has shown quilts. Would someone be interested in taking the lead for the guild. Is there an interest in participating again?
Upcoming Quilt Shows: Fenimore Quilt Club show in Cooperstown on February 3-18 11-4 and Sundays 1-4 Susquehanna Quilt Guild show at 11 Ford Ave, Oneonta on February 15-18 and 22-25th . Middleburgh Reformed Church show on May 17 and 18th .

Program: Many members showed quilts, table toppers and runners and a tree skirt. The rulers included Jay Bird side kick ruler, diamond ruler, Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler, a 60 degrees triangle ruler, assorted square with diagonal lines rulers, triangle block ruler, Quilt in a Day square ruler and a Kaleidoscope triangle ruler. Also shown were rulers that multiple strips could be cut out at one time.

Members present: 23 Guests: 0
****Secretary’s report: The minutes from the February 13, 2024 meeting were emailed to the members. A motion was made by Kathy Gorczyca to accept the minutes and it was seconded by Ginny Schaum. The motion was passed by the members present.
****Treasurer’s report: Ron Lower reported the balance on the guild’s checking account is $2,276.79. There has been no activity on the account in the past month. A motion was made by Sharon Vrooman to accept the treasurer’s report and it was seconded by Emily Davis. The motion was passed by the members present.
****Historian’s report: Stephanie Liddle said there is nothing new to report.
****Quilter’s HOF: Kathy Livingston reported there will probably be a meeting in May. The annual picnic will be held on July 8,2024 at the C.D. Land Park in Maple Quest. The date for their quilt show isn’t available yet.
****Program Committee: There will be a guest speaker at the April 9, 2024 meeting on scrappy applique. There is a $400 fee for the guild. More about the technique can be found online at Shannon Brinkley’s Scrappy Applique. There are YouTube videos online.
*********Charity quilts are due at the April meeting.
Old Business: Empire Quiltfest: The quilt show will be held on April 27from 9am to 4pm and April 28th from 10am to 4pm. Admission is $10 per day. Quilt entries can be dropped off at Sharon Vrooman’s April 20 and 21 during regular business hours. Show information can be found on the website, EMPIREQUILTFEST.ORG. Volunteers are still needed for set up, take down and during the show.
******Our guild will have a table at the quilt show and we will sell fat quarters, patterns and books. Donations may be given to Sharon Vrooman. We are collecting Christmas quilting items for a basket. Kathy Gorczyca has donated a Longaberger basket to hold the items.
By-Laws: Ron Lower, Sharon Vrooman and Colleen DeMuth met to discuss possible items in the SVP guild by-laws that may need to be updated or changed. During discussion among the guild members at the April meeting, it was brought up that there may be some items that might be better in a procedural format regarding officers and programs. It was also thought we shouldn’t be too specific about some areas related to the guild. It was decided Ron, Sharon and Colleen should meet again to discuss how we can make some of the discussed changes.
New Business: Lancaster Quilt Show will be held on April 10-13 at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center, PA Genesse Valley Quilt Show will be held May 17-19 in Rochester, NY. Middleburgh Reformed Church Quilt Show will be held on May 17and 18. Block of the Month: Birds in the Air
