Meeting Minutes for June 10, 2025

 

Meeting was opened at 1:55 after a delicious potluck lunch by Barb H., president.

Members present: 19 Guests: 0

***Secretary’s report: The minutes were emailed to the members. A motion was made by Kathy G. to approve the minutes and seconded by Deb S. The motion was passed and there were 3 abstentions.

***Treasurer’s report: Ron Lower reported there was one check written to May’s program presenter for $300.00. The current balance is $2,306.20. A motion was made by Emily D. to approve the treasurer’s report, and it was seconded by Stephanie L. The motion was passed unanimously

***Historian: Stephanie L. reported that pictures of last month’s meeting are on the website.

***Sunshine: Betsy M. made a motion to donate $100 to the Samaritan Purse, Operation Christmas child in memory of our past member Sue Smith and it was seconded by Emilie W. The motion was passed unanimously. A second motion was made to make a $100 donation to the City Mission of Schenectady in memory of Edna Lower, an SVP member by Betsy M. and seconded by Emilie W. The motion was passed unanimously.

***By-Laws committee: Barb H. encouraged the members to meet over the summer and bring back suggestions for changes to the current by-laws in September.

***Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame: The picnic will be held on July 14th at CD Lane Park. It was suggested to drive to the Windham Quilt shop (The Patchwork Co.) and then put the address in your GPS. The raffle block for participating quilters is the Bear Tracks block, 12 ½” unfinished. Please use light fabric as the background and Adirondack colors for the tracks. Please bring a dish to share. The judging was completed, and the sponsor and inductee will receive a letter regarding the results.

***EQF: The meeting continues to be held over zoom. Vendor fees have been determined for their booths. Kathy L. will be contacting vendors regarding the April 2026 show.

**Nominating committee: Some names were added and others deleted. The following names remain on the ballet. Kathy G. for Vice-President Ron L. for Treasurer. New Nominations: Diane W. for President, nominated by Sharon V. Stephanie Liddle for Secretary, nominated by Ruey S. Emily D. made a motion to accept the ballot of four nominees for officers and was seconded by Sharon V. The motion passed unanimously. Other volunteer positions are below: Historian: Kathy L., Sunshine: Marlene L., Name Tag Drawing: Colleen D. and Debra S. Audit committee Ruey S. and Martha C, will meet with Ron L. who will turn over the SVP banking information in June. Program committee: Sharon V. reported she talked with Nicky R., Emily D. and Martha C. about being members of the committee.

Old Business:

***Schoharie Library Flower and Quilt show: The quilts were hung earlier in June, and the f lowers will be displayed soon. You may still drop off a quilt if you would like to participate. There will be a Friday tea and Saturday, Sharon V will be there to provide some information to those who bring in older quilts. The quilts will be taken down on June 24th at 1:00.

***Old Stone Fort Day will be held on October 4th. Kathy L. will send out registration forms for quilt entries. The set up will be later in the week prior to October 4th.

*** ***DAR event in Schoharie recently to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War. Kathy L. said she made a quilt out of patriotic panels in honor of the event.

***Betsy mentioned there were three who participated in the New York block workshop.

New Business:

Quilt shows: Tompkins County Quilters Guild is holding a quilt show on September 20th and 21st from 10:00-5:00 at the Tompkins Cortland Community College Field House in Dryden, NY. Stone Arabia Preservation Society is holding a lecture at the Stone Church in Fort Plain, NY on Friday, July 17th and it will be open on July 18th and 19th as well

***Name Tag Drawing: Betsy Macomber

***Bit of Betty: Betty demonstrated making roses from wired ribbon of different widths.

***Show and Tell: Barb H.-baby quilt with whale fabric Betty P.-She showed and antique crazy quilt that a great granddaughter of the quilter gave to a quilt store in the Leather stocking area. Betty found out the quilter was buried in Iowa, and she visited her grave when she was in that area. Deb S.- Showed a quilt that was made by Chris Polak, a deceased SVP quilter Denise- attic window challenge with birds Diane-tree of life wall hanging

***Ron mentioned at the end of the meeting that he will check with the bank regarding new officers.

*** Barb H was given heart blocks as a thank you from the SVP guild members for her term as president.
