SVP Meeting

   Schoharie Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild

  Minutes for May 13, 2025

 

The meeting was opened by Barb Haverly, president at 1:05.

 

Ellen Adams our guest presenter was introduced by Kathy L. Ellen shared many of her quilts and how she is inspired by many different craft items and antique fabrics to use in different projects. She enjoys using wool appliqué on blocks from old quilts. She used some unusual items in her designs and challenges she participated in. 

 

Returned to the business part of meeting.

*** Secretary's report: Colleen reported the minutes were emailed to the members. A motion was made by Stephanie to accept the minutes and seconded by Emily D. The motion was passed by the members with one abstention. A thank you note from Maternity Services for the 33 donated quilts from SVP members was read.

***Treasurer's report: Ron reported the balance in the checking account is 2,606.20. A motion was made by Emily Davis to accept the treasurer's report and seconded by Kathy L. The motion was passed by the members.        

***Historian: Stephanie has pictures on the website from the previous meeting.

***By-Laws: There hasn't been a meeting.

***Catskill Mountain HOF: Kathy L reported the picnic will be on July 14th at CD Lane Park. If you would like to make a block of the pattern, Bear Tracks it should be 12 1/2" unfinished. See Kathy for further information. The judging for quilts of this year's HOF nominees is on June 9th.

Our raffle basket theme is chocolate. Please bring fabric in shades of chocolates, chocolate food items and anything related to chocolate to our June meeting. 

***EQF:The theme for the quilt show is "Revolution in Color". The maximum size is 42" x 42".

***Program Committee: This month's block is Drunkard's Path. Kathy L. showed variations on how it could be put together in a quilt.

***Nominating committee: A discussion was held after some names for positions were put forth. A motion was made to table the nominations until June with nominations from the floor by Kathy L. and seconded by Emily Davis.

 

***Old Business

***Quilts in Bloom, Quilt in and Flower Show at the Schoharie Library will be held June 5-24,  the quilts will be on display and the flowers will be on display June 11-14.  Guild members are needed for hanging quilts on June 4th at 1:00 and on June 24th at 1:00 for quilt take down and pick up.

***Old Stone Fort Day will be held on October 4th.  Diane reported there will be four bands playing, food, quilt show and 75 vendors have responded.

 

***New Business

A discussion was held about making a donation in Sue S.'s memory. A motion was made by Emily D. to make donation of $50 to Samaritan Purse. Further discussion was held and Kathy L. made a motion to amend the donation to $100 to Samaritan Purse  and it was seconded by Nicky. The motion was passed by the members present.

***A quilt show will be held in Walton the first full weekend in June.

***Show and Tell

*** Emily D: Tree of Life in bright colors and a bird house quilt.  

***Nicky: white crochet flowers in a vase on black background and framed, and a vintage rose quilt

*** Betty: showed her attic window challenge from PDQ of a beach scene through  a screen door

***Dolores: multiple projects in the last month including mending, embroidery project, made towels.

***Kathy G.: made a wall hanging on a quilt retreat, purple and green strip quilt and an attic window challenge with a sunflower panel

***Ron: showed a disappearing pinwheel quilt

***Kathy L.: showed a quilt of past guild challenges blocks that  she framed with a chain border

 

Next meeting will be held on June 10th. We'll have our end of the year potluck lunch. Please bring a dish to share, a place setting for yourself and a beverage.
